Redefining Classy Hotel Experiences in the City

Our Story

A Special History for Special Guests

Talisman is the first star on the Talisman Chain of hotels, one of the old Damascene palaces that has been transformed into a hotel. The palace was built 300 years ago in one of the oldest neighborhoods of old Damascus (the Jewish Quarter), and it originally belonged to a prestigious Damascene family, the Al-Shaghil family.

It was later renovated and turned into a hotel in 2006. Due to its unique style and prime location, only twenty minutes from the airport, a hundred yards from the old Roman straight way (Medhat Pacha) and the historical Bab Sharqi, famous now for its souks and street markets.

It has hosted several notable guests such as Queen Sofia of Spain, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie.

The hotel includes a swimming pool, two courtyards, Liwan, Qa’aa, and 17 outstanding rooms and Suites that give you the “never-to-forget Damascus” experience.

Hotel History

A Living Piece of Damascene Heritage

Step into the Talisman Hotel and experience the timeless charm of old Damascus. Our architecture draws deep inspiration from the traditional Damascene house — a style that flourished in the 17th and 18th centuries, long before European influences shaped the region in the mid-19th century.

Despite the passage of time, Talisman preserves the soul of its heritage. The building echoes the elegance of Umayyad design: graceful columns support domed square pavilions, while the corridors open onto lush natural scenes and detailed mosaic art.
One of the most striking features is the stained glass windows, crafted in the traditional Damascene technique. Delicate gypsum carvings hold vibrant pieces of colored glass, forming decorative and symbolic patterns that dance with light. These historic arts saw a remarkable revival in the 1980s, led by Syrian artist Salem Al-Shouei — a revival proudly reflected throughout our hotel.

At Talisman, every detail tells a story. Welcome to a place where the past and present coexist beautifully.

Style Overview

A Grand Welcome, Damascene Style

The entrance to the Talisman Hotel is a true Damascene masterpiece — a refined display of taste and artistic diversity.

Decorative elements crafted from various materials like painted wood, marble, and stone come together in a harmonious and captivating design.

These ornamental arts are rooted in precise geometric elements, both bold and delicate, complemented by stylized botanical motifs arranged with intricate symmetry. This artistic approach, prominent in Islamic architecture, is beautifully reflected in the hotel's entrance.

Graceful patterns frame the marble panels and arches, creating a stunning visual experience that captivates guests from the very first step.

Rooms Woven with History

The rooms at the Talisman Hotel are adorned with luxurious Damascene carpets, echoing the rich tradition of carpet weaving that flourished in Syria during the Mamluk era. These carpets are distinguished by their intricate geometric patterns, resembling carefully arranged tiles, as well as motifs of vines, trees, and grape clusters in vivid shades of red, blue, green, and yellow.
You’ll also find touches of arabesque art in the hotel’s windows and select furniture pieces — a reflection of the deep artistic heritage of the Arab and Islamic world. Historically, this decorative style was embraced by nobles and the wealthy as a way to express sophistication and add unique beauty to their palaces and homes.
